Phenomenal Growth Comes to Those Who Are Brave

Many business owners are proud of how they started their business on “shoe strap.” And if that worked for you, great! But there comes a point when you need to start making investments if you want to continue to grow – whether you want to open a new location, create new products or expand with new services as a high-end coach or consultant.

The “shoe strap” mentality that might have worked for in the beginning can get you stuck permanently in start-up mode, instead of the growing enterprise you dreamed about.

It’s actually an alarming trend that I’m seeing among entrepreneurs and business owners. Many seem to be treading water as they wait…and wait… and wait for the perfect moment or the perfect action. They see others living their dream, and they’re not quite brave enough to step up their game.

The truth is – you have to create the life that you want for yourself. To fully step into your role as the CEO of your business you must master a key skill that leaders and high achievers employ to reach their destiny. What’s their secret?

To be wildly successful, high achievers know that they must be brave. To get to the heart of this issue, let’s break it down into two segments:

1) Making Decisions

Action comes only after you make a decision.Many hold back from making decisions, fearing that they’ll make the wrong one or they’ll limit the options of what they can do. Did you know that the word “decision” comes from the Latin ‘decisio,’ which literally means “to cut off”? We all know that when you decide on one course of action, you’re saying “no” to other actions or are “cutting them off”. But that doesn’t hold high achievers back, because they’ve learned that letting go is invigorating and they’re convinced that the choice they make is the best one for that particular time.

You won’t get to where you want to go if you don’t become decisive. So ask yourself, “Am I brave enough to make tough decisions or am I just always taking the path of least resistance and going with the flow?”

2) Investing in Yourself

Have you heard people say, “I can’t afford that right now”? I have, even though it’s exactly what they need to make more money!

Isn’t “I can’t afford that right now” really an excuse? Because don’t we still buy lots of “stuff”. Those of us with a coffee habit know how EASY it is to fritter away a hundred dollars a month on lattes.

There’s a big difference between spending money and making a strategic decision to invest in yourself. When you decide to spend your money, you do “cut off” the option of using that money again. So you want to invest your finances strategically on programs, tools, and skills that will get a good return on your investment.

Here’s what I’ve discovered that works. You must give yourself space to think, decide on a course of action, attach yourself to someone who has successfully accomplished that goal already, and pour your heart into learning all you can from that person. When I find someone that has achieved what I want to achieve I go for it!

Something magical happens when business owners make the decision to invest in their own development. The negative internal stuff begins to go away. You don’t need or want someone to make decisions for you. You stand up straighter. You look at the world with eyes full of anticipation. You know you have the capability to make things happen and nothing can hold you back, including the negative chatter from naysayers or even from within your own head. Yes, it can be scary to step out of your comfort zone. But when you’re brave you’ll see phenomenal growth in yourself as a person and also in your business.
